Our Story

From a small shop by the bus stand, to a name Chanderi trusts.

We at Motamal Handlooms, established across six generations, are prominent manufacturers and suppliers of Chanderi handloom sarees — designer Chanderi sarees, traditional Chanderi sarees, printed Chanderi sarees and heavy Chanderi sarees. We are trusted manufacturers, wholesalers and suppliers of sarees and suits of premium quality.

Every saree is warped in fine 18/20D–20/22D silk and wefted in 2/80S–2/120S mercerised cotton, dyed with skin-friendly, colourfast dyes true to the traditional Chanderi technique.

Beyond The Loom

The World Our Sarees Come From

Chanderi is as much a place as it is a weave — a small historic town of forts and palaces, and the weavers who keep this craft alive.

Went to buy a Chanderi saree from Motamal Handlooms and the collection is wonderful — good sarees at a very reasonable rate. The shop owner and staff are friendly and helpful. Chanderi itself is a lovely small town to visit — don't miss Chanderi Fort, Chanderi Palace and Badal Mahal while you're here.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

A traditional Chanderi saree is woven with a silk warp (18/20D–20/22D) and a mercerised cotton weft (2/80S–2/120S), which gives it its signature sheer, lightweight feel and natural sheen. Motifs are often highlighted with fine zari (gold or silver thread) work.

Chanderi sarees should ideally be dry cleaned, or hand washed separately in cold water with a mild detergent. Iron on a warm, not hot, setting and store folded in a breathable cloth away from direct sunlight to preserve the zari work and colour.
